Can teenagers get Invisalign?
This is perhaps one of our most common questions. People often wonder if their teenage children can forego the traditional mouth full of metal when braces are recommended. Teenagers can absolutely get Invisalign, and studies show that teens are twice as likely to have higher self-esteem with Invisalign (versus metal braces).
An orthodontist will be the one to recommend Invisalign for your child. As soon as your child has permanent teeth coming in, your dentist and orthodontist will look for indicators that show your child needs braces. Invisalign essentially works for people at any age—as long as they have their permanent teeth.
Is Invisalign expensive?
Many people who are considering Invisalign shy away from this procedure, their wariness coming from anticipated expenses. Since Invisalign is efficient and discreet, those hoping for invisible braces often assume this will be the more expensive treatment.
Invisalign is actually very comparable to the price of regular braces, especially considering it can correct smiles at a faster rate. As an added bonus, Dr. Mazhari and the team at Alexandria Health & Smile Studio often run specials for anyone starting Invisalign—visit our Invisalign page to see what deals we currently have!
When do you wear Invisalign?
For the most efficient and best use of your invisible braces, Invisalign should be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. Invisalign can be worn essentially all day—the only times to take out these invisible braces are when you brush and floss your teeth, eat, and drink.
How long does Invisalign take to work?
Every case is different, but for many adults, Invisalign—when used correctly—takes about a year to be effective. You’ll meet with your dentist or orthodontist every four to six weeks to ensure progress is happening in a timely fashion. For teenagers, the amount of time for Invisalign to take effect can vary, but can be determined more thoroughly from your orthodontist.
Is it really invisible?
We’re not at full invisibility yet, but Invisalign gets awfully close. Invisalign braces are transparent aligners that fit over your teeth, and are an incredibly popular choice for orthodontic work because of their discretion. They’re tailored to your teeth, and are made of a special type of plastic that are virtually invisible.
Why should I get Invisalign?
Most people opt for Invisalign to help improve the look of their smile. Within a year or so, your smile could be straighter, which can give you the confidence you’ve always wanted. If you’ve ever hidden your smile or felt self-conscious about it, this can be an excellent treatment to help you create the look you’ve wanted.
There can also be some improvements in comfort and overall function of your teeth with Invisalign. If misaligned teeth are causing you problems, such as making you have to adjust how you speak or eat, Invisalign could make a huge difference in your day-to-day functions (and life as a whole).
As an additional reason for getting Invisalign, proper teeth alignment can alleviate a multitude of other health problems. In some instances, improper teeth alignment can cause headaches and TMJ—getting braces could potentially make these problems vanish. Talk with your orthodontist or dentist to see if this is a possibility!
